Final Exam Project

For my exam project, I added some cards to my rounds mod ( https://github.com/poppycars22/ChaosPoppycarsCards < the GitHub of the mod) the things I did specifically are: 1. making the mountain dew mono and card 2. making the lightsaber and the mono that locks some of the stats (called “test mono”) 3. making all the Minecraft cards into a class, and adding two more cards (crafting table, brewing stand)

The .cs files of the cards mentioned

I started the project with the mountain dew card, I had some code that accomplished the same thing already done, so it was the easiest, I decided to make mountain dew make the character bigger, increase movement speed, and increase jump height

The next card I made was the lightsaber, I went in wanting to make it a short-ranged, deadly, constant spray of bullets. In order to achieve the short range which is something I haven’t done before, I had to look at other rounds mod githubs to see how it was done, once I found out I implemented it and adjusted it to my liking, once I finished implementing the range, I adjusted it so that it wouldn’t be very op

After I made the lightsaber card I decided to make all the Minecraft cards into a class, I started by finding out how to make stuff into a class, and after looking at a reference I started by making a new card (crafting table) as the entry point to the class after I did that I made another card, brewing stand, this card was a “subclass” that unlocked the potion cards. Once I had those done I adjusted the tool cards (wooden-netherite sword, axe, hoe, and leather-netherite armor), the adjustment being that if you have a wooden/leather version you would “craft” the next level (wooden->stone->iron->diamond->netherite)

3rd Quarter Project Part 2 -Jace

Some things that have changed since my last blog post include: 1. I have decided to do the platforming path. 2. I made a controllable player object and a tilemap that lets me make levels easily.

screenshot of my tilemap

My current goals for me to reach for this project by March 25th include 1. Getting at least 1 level fully completed, and making that level actually fun 2. Improved player movement, and a camera that properly follows the player object 3. A working enemy AI 4. Some sort of “speed boost” power-up 5. A pause menu of some sorts

Image of the current “testing area” of my game, the yellow circle is the player

Some other things I have done for this project include me switching to a youtube tutorial because the codeHS and built-in tutorials didn’t help much with a platformer, learning how to add the player movement, making an angular tilemap, and also, learning how to do some animation with built-in unity features.

3rd quarter project -Jace

The program I am using for the 3rd quarter project in SFI is Unity, a game engine that provides tools for making games, the reason I choose Unity for my project is that I am interested in pursuing a game development path in the future.

Unity UI

The things I have done so far in this project are 1. Doing some built-in Unity tutorials 2. Doing part of the code HS about unity and 3. Learning how to use some of Unity’s tools.

My plan to tell the story is to start it with an introduction to the world the game will take place in, then, as you (either solve puzzles or go past certain areas, I haven’t completely decided yet) you gain more parts of the story, there will also be an “inventory” where you can view all the story parts you have unlocked, and piece it together to get the full picture. I plan on continuing/finishing the unity CodeHS and then starting to finally make the game.

An example of what the UI could look like (not the actual story)

Jace SFI exam project

For my SFI exam project, I had two options, a toy or a pot, and I chose to make a pot for a succulent plant; I started by finding out the pot requirements for a succulent plant, them being that the pot needs water drainage (like rocks in the soil) with this in mind, and also that a cactus is a common form of succulent plants, I decided to make a pyramid-like pot. I started my design process by creating a sketch in fusion360, the program I am using. This sketch was a simple square; I then used the extrude tool to turn this sketch into a 3D object, then I used another feature of the extrude tool, allowing you to “rotate” the extrusion and create weird shapes, using that I was able to make a pyramid-like shape (see photo below, FYI this photo has extra things added on later)

After getting the base pyramid shape, I added a hole into the top where the plant would go. I did this using the “hole” tool; the hole I made can be viewed using the photo above; with this hole added, I added a bump on the inside for a slight amount of water drainage for the plant to be added. (the white circle is the bump, not as tall as it appears)

After adding the bump, I wanted the design to look cooler instead of just a pyramid with a hole, so I added a sketch on each side of the pyramid of a trapezoid then used the cut feature of the extrude tool slightly cut into each side to add a bit more design that makes the pyramid look complete. I made sure it was printable, uploaded it to Ultimaker Cura, and got it ready to print. (photo below shows the design)

Jace’s SFI side project

I started my side project early on into the class, the side project I decided to do was a laser show that would most likely be around 2-5 minutes. I quickly found out what software I needed in order to make a laser show it being BEYOND 3.0, once I got onto a computer with BEYOND I started messing around to find out the different options, how to use them, and other features.

BEYOND UI

Once I decided on the music track I would be using I started on the atmospheric effects, these atmospheric effects would be RGB and react to the music, these atmospheric effects ended up coming out really good.

one of the atmospheric effects

After I felt I did the best I could do on the atmospheric effects I started work on the secondary effects, I decided to make the secondary effects very similar to the atmospheric effects but make it more complicated, I spent just as long on the secondary effects as the atmospheric due to learning how to do the things during making the atmospheric effects.

Once I finished all the other effects I got to work on my main effects, well making my main effects I discovered a feature that I quickly put to use, this feature allowed me to put the effects onto different laser projectors, using this I made another secondary effect of a spinning rainbow ninja star that went all around the planetarium, in this process I also made an effect that “overloaded” the laser projectors because it was way too many lines at once. My main effect consisted of an animation that took me a while to figure out how to do, in this animation a blue circle with a top hat rotated and change into an orange circle with a canon that then fired it, I made a few other effects like a “building” animation for the main projector, however, I never got a chance to fully complete this laser animation so that is all that happened with my side project.

one of the main effects, this one wasn’t talked about but its color-changing dots in a cool pattern

Jace- Christmas Ornament

In SFI we did a Christmas project of designing and 3D printing a unique Christmas ornament. My idea for my ornament would be a shuriken and the hole in the center could be used to put on and stay on the tree, the way I thought of doing a shuriken as an ornament was simply that I played a game with a ninja that throws shurikens, I noticed the hole and thought “could I make that my ornament?” The program I used to design the STL for printing was Fusion360 (see image 1 to see the design)

Jace- SFI Introduction

Hello, this is my introductory blog post on what I plan on doing during my time in Science for inventors. I’m currently working on an ornament for my family’s Christmas tree, I’m doing this using fusion 360 and the printers inside the maker space. I currently plan on being a “jack of all trades” and doing all the different possible things and once I find one I want to continue with I will mainly focus on that thing, this also applies to my personal projects. I feel I will have an easier time with the laser shows as I have used programs that look like the laser show program (BEYOND), another strength I have is how fast I can understand things related to electronics/ how good I am with electronics. The challenge that will be the biggest for me in my opinion is my attention span and my memory as sometimes I can forget things in seconds and others I just get extremely bored. With all this said I hope I can do good in this class and have fun.
